Chapter 4

Slowly but surely the bell rang letting us know that it’s the end of the school day.

“Quiz on Friday don’t forget, if you’re still not sure about this chapter then please come for tutoring, remember I’m here every day after school from 3:00pm-4:30pm.” Said Mr. Spica to the class as we all rushed out the door.

“Ard be safe Spica.” I said to my teacher as I walked out the door. He nodded to me, “and you as well Mr. El.”

Usually I walk home with Jerry but today I didn’t want no distraction, I just wanted to go home as fast as possible and call Christy.

Luckily the weather cleared up nicely and it was a bright and sunny day, this morning it looked like the end of the world with all of the rain and thunderstorms.

I didn’t have to take the bus to go home as other kids had to, since my house was so close to the school. I took a shortcut home so I could go home and do what I had to (call Christy). There was a bridge in which a train track was under and if I walked on it I could go home faster, that was the shortcut for me.

I took my shortcut on the train tracks and began to walk home. While I was walking I saw somebody sitting on one of the benches where people sat to wait for the train, he was smoking weed and had wireless headphones in.

“DuLi!” I yelled out. It was Abdul. I quickly rushed over to him.

Aye Jason, wassup bro you chilling?” Abdul said to me, we shook hands.

“Hey wassup Dul what you doing?” I said to my friend. I knew I had to go home and call Christy but I didn’t mind delaying that a little bit to talk to Abdul. He was a bit older and was in the 11th or 12th grade, I wasn’t really sure. It wasn’t every day that you would run into him and he was so easy to talk to and always made you laugh and gave great advice.

“Just chilling bro, getting high and listening to music.” Said Abdul.

Cool bro, can I hit?” I asked Abdul if I could get a puff of the weed. I smoked weed before once a couple months ago with Joe from school, I didn’t really get high and I didn’t like the taste it left in my mouth. I just wanted to seem like I was hip in the presence of Abdul because he was so cool, and I didn’t want him to think that I was a lame.

Abdul looked at me for a few seconds. “Yeah man sure, but I have to warn you…”

“This is not good and it’s only going to lead to your own destruction.” Abdul said to me as he handed me the blunt.

I hesitantly took the blunt, what did he mean by that? I don’t want to see my own destruction. I grabbed the blunt and put it in my mouth and inhaled. “COUGH COUGH!”

Abdul rubbed my back and grabbed the blunt from my hand. He smiled and laughed at me.

“Damn bro you good? I told you this stuff is not good.”

“Yeah I’m ok.” I said in between coughs. Abdul handed me a bottle of water, I quickly took it and drank half of it down.

Abdul rubbed my back again. “You good bro?”

“Yeah, just not used to it.” I said.

Abdul looked at me and began to laugh “You a clown bro, but I don’t want you getting used to this stuff man”.

“Yeah yeah, don’t tell me what to do.” I said jokingly to Abdul.

Abdul then took a large swift of the blunt and inhaled deeply then he blew out the smoke out from his nose.

“So what you getting into bruh?” Abdul said to me.

“Chilling bruh, finna go home and eat, just came out school.”

What grade you in now?” Abdul asked me.

8th, finna be up there with you next year.” I said.

True true, how your little sister and mom doing?”

They chilling, how about you? How’s your family?”

Abdul gave me a long stare as he took another hit of the blunt.

You in love Jason?” He said to me while smiling.

I looked at him for a few seconds. “Umm… What do you mean?”

Abdul smiled at me and ignored my question. “She gotta fat butt?”

I burst out in laughter. I then shook his hands, I knew exactly what he was talking about.

“That jawn fat bro! And she got long hair and pretty eyes.” I said.

“Haha!” Jason shook my hand and took another hit of the blunt.

“Let me give you an advice young fella, take heed. May I proceed?” Said Abdul.

“Speak bruh, you are permissed.”

“She’s not the one bro.” Said Abdul.

I gave him a long look. “What do you mean?”

“If you like her solely for her fat butt and long hair and pretty eyes than she’s not the one.”

“No, that’s not all what I like her for. She’s really smart and she makes me laugh and she’s super cool.” I quickly said to him, defending my feelings for Christy. Even though I knew it was all a lie. Christy was the love of my life. But would I still have the same feelings for her if she didn’t have a fat butt and long hair with pretty eyes? I can’t say. Most likely not. I knew Abdul was right and was speaking out of wisdom, I just wanted to try to defend my feelings and make it seem like it was justifiable and it was okay to feel like that.

“Ok bruh, whatever you say. Let me just give you one advice. If you really like this girl, can you imagine spending the rest of your life with her? And if you can then will you be able to see her not being in your life? And if you can’t then she ain’t for you bro.” He took another huge hit of the blunt and threw it away.

“But ok little bro I gotta dip and go home and sleep this high off, I’ma holl at you. You be safe now.” Said Abdul.

He shook my hand and then began to walk home in the opposite way.
